Yusuf was given a mission before his father’s death – to kill the person Corvus Lestrange loved most in the world, in revenge for Laurena’s death. While Yusuf initially thought this was Leta, he found that Corvus didn’t care about his daughter, nor about his next wife. Instead, Corvus only took care of his son, also known as Corvus.
When Corvus learned of Yusuf’s task, he sent the child and Leta along with Irma Dugard to travel to America. During the journey, as Leta reveals at the Lestrange family mausoleum in “The Crimes of Grindelwald,” she exchanged Corvus for another child, which ultimately resulted in him drowning when the ship sank.

Now that Dumbledore is in possession of the vial, which contains droplets of him and Grindelwald’s blood, it’s obvious he could figure out a way to break it and raise his wand against Grindelwald.

Aberforth tells the trio that Albus became his sister’s caretaker after one of her magical outbursts killed their mother. However, his ties to Gellert Grindelwald and their plans to expose magical society for the “greater good” distracted him from Ariana.
When Aberforth confronted Grindelwald and Albus, Grindelwald used the Cruciatus Curse on Aberforth, leading to Albus defending him. The three ended up in a duel and in the crossfire Ariana died.
