
Joe Sugarman, the highly successful entrepreneur best known for his legendary BluBlocker sunglasses, has passed away at the age of 83.
The beloved businessman passed away peacefully on March 18.

In 1962, Sugarman’s electrical engineering degree was cut short when he was drafted into the military. He spent more than three years in Germany, serving with military intelligence and later the CIA. It was on his return home to Illinois that the avid American gave free rein to his entrepreneurial spirit and founded a small company marketing Austrian ski lifts in the US.

In 1971, Joe Sugarman founded JS&A, which sold electronics from his family’s basement. BluBlocker sunglasses are launched
It was in 1986 that Sugarman’s most legendary brand was born: BluBlocker sunglasses. Sugarman was able to draw attention to the dangers of blue light through a revolutionary infomercial, and the sunglasses became and continue to be a huge hit.
Like many successful entrepreneurs, Sugarman was not afraid to diversify and in 1993 launched The Maui Weekly newspaper, which updated the local community with important news. He also lectured on advertising and marketing around the world and was the author of seven books on marketing and advertising.
