Job Description : | JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Dickinson Law, located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director, Student Services (Student Services Associate 3). The Assistant Director of Student Services will report to the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services and will provide leadership and vision in support of the Law School’s Student Services Office. Dickinson Law is seeking an experienced and hands-on Manager to plan, develop, and implement Student Services programs. They are responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of dynamic student activities, including those of a social, cultural, and ceremonial nature. This position oversees all student organizations and serves as the advisor to the Student Bar Association (SBA). In addition, the Assistant Director provides counseling, programming, and services to support students in the successful completion of academic and out of classroom experiences. This role advises and enforces University and Law School policies and resolves complex issues and problems. The Assistant Director will provide overall leadership, management, planning, and strategic direction for these programs and initiatives as well as the delivery of these activities. In addition, this position will include budgetary and communications responsibilities, developing internal and external relationship, and serve on various committees and teams. Specific duties of this position also include but are not limited to: Mission-Critical Student Experience Events: Lead and manage all logistics and scheduling of New Student Orientation (NSO), Awards Ceremony and Commencement Coordinate JD NSO Logistics and International Student Orientation programs Supervise student volunteers to assist and mission-critical event execution Assess all programming taking into account the desired student experience Recommend changes based on assessment results to better advance strategic goals of the University and Law School Student Services-Focused Programming: Develop and coordinate all student -focused academic, cultural, and welling-being related programming, including Curtilage Comeback, All-U-Day, diversity programs, and wellness initiatives, amongst others Develop a strategic plan for school-wide wellness initiatives for students enrolled during the academic year Develop, assess, and implement a summer wellness program specifically designed to support students studying for the bar exam Identify students in crisis, serve as a member of the Behavioral Threat Management Team (BTMT), provide student crisis counseling support, and refer students to resources Oversee, monitor, and analyze budgets for Student Services related programming Negotiate and manage agreements for student services initiatives Student Activities/Organizations: Serve as an advocate for more than 20 student organizations and administratively lead those organizations to plan, organize, budget, and publicize events throughout the year Create, evaluate, and revise student organization policies Plan and deliver new student leader training in the fall and transition leadership training in the spring Advise the SBA in its daily operations and provide oversight for SBA sponsored events, meetings, and trainings Disability Accommodations: Manage all approved disability accommodation logistics Coordinate the provision of permanent and temporary accommodations with students and faculty/staff Oversee the creation and execution of the mid-semester assessment and final exam proctor schedules for accommodated students, including those with disabilities, pregnant and parenting students, and those for who English is a second language Maintain confidentiality of accommodations while ensuring the integrity of the anonymous grading process utilized in legal education Serve as a proctor of exams Maintain all disability accommodation records Management and Supervision: Supervise student workers, academic success tutors, and part-time employee(s) Assist with coordination, recruitment, selection, training, and establishment of objectives of the Law Lion Ambassador program Manage the daily operation of the Student Services Office Partnerships and Communications: Serve as a liaison to other departments and develop coordinated initiatives that improve the student experience across all law school offices, including Alumni & Development, Business Services, Career Services, Admissions & Financial Aid, and Financial Officer/Bursar Office Collaborate across the campus to support students, making referrals to other offices when necessary Create and manage the delivery of communications related to events and programming offered by on and off campus entities Typically requires a Master’s degree or higher plus three (3) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful applicant must exhibit excellent written and oral communications skills and they must have the ability to interact meaningfully, confidently, and effectively with a diverse student body and professionals of all levels of experience and authority. They must also possess strong organizational skills and must be goal-oriented, self-motivated, and able to lead and motivate others. They must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (including MS Teams) and Zoom. This position is based in Carlisle, PA.
