|JOB TITLE Assistant Director of Food Services 6.03CLASSIFICATION Exempt *IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR Director of Food ServicesJOB SUMMARY To build a well-rounded Food Service Program that enhances the needs of the students, the district and the community. Always maintaining USDA requirements, and a nutritious, well-budgeted and friendly food service program.**QUALIFICATIONS Past successful experience in a school food service program. Must have the ability to complete the basic School Food Service Short Courses as recommended by the Bureau of Food and Nutrition. Must be Serve Safe Certified. Must be able to fulfill the requirements of the essential job functions. Must have excellent teamwork and communication skill. Must have background or experience in budgeting, documenting and computer skills.SUPERVISION OF OTHERS All School Food Service PersonnelESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDirectly assists the Food Service Director in all aspects of their employment which includes:Regularly visits and inspects each kitchen and cafeteria facility and confers with principals regarding the food service program.Plans, prepares and publishes all menus for school breakfast, lunch and snacks.Determines adequate portion sizes for all meals.Keeps cost analysis data to determine food costs and labor costs.Submits and/or updates the USDA School Foodservice Application annually, and assists with and/or submits meals claims monthly.Keeps abreast and updated on the requirements and news of the Bureau of Food and Nutrition.Keeps the local food service program fun, enjoyable and a positive learning experience to the students.Reports any physical concerns of the building or equipment to the Director of Maintenance, working with them to determine the best solution for upkeep or repair.Keeps regular maintenance records and schedules the preventative maintenance of all equipment.Updates the equipment inventory annually for the media center and for the high school and elementary buildings.Monitors the upkeep of the food service van and co-ordinates regular maintenance with the Director of transportation.Works with the Food Service bookkeeper and principals to keep the family lunch account balances from dropping into the negative.Maintains nutritional information on all foods purchased and provides access to that information upon request.Maintains documentation and confidentiality regarding actions or performance of food service personnel.Sets long term department goals.Provides regular in-service and training to the food service department.Works with faculty and community to provide resources and utilization of the kitchen facilities for special events.Assesses the budget regularly and confers with the superintendent if there is a need for lunch price increases.Submits milk and bread bids annually.Seeks out the best food prices available to maintain cost effective meals.Supervises and coordinates the work of the kitchen manager and recordkeeper/cashier.Handles the purchasing of all foods, supplies and equipment.Handles and/or delegates the receiving procedures.Interviews, hires, awards and disciplines all food service employees.Checks all bills and purchase orders for accuracy before presenting them for payment.Maintains good public relations with students, parents, faculty and community.Acts as the USDA Team Nutrition Leader for the School District.Acts as the District Leader for the required HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Procedures) Team.Serves as a member of the District Wellness Policy CommitteeKeeps foodservice employees updated and knowledgeable of upcoming events, goals and revisions in procedures.Works with food service employees to ensure their participation in USDA Short Courses, Serve-Safe Classes or other affordable and quality learning opportunities.Records and submits annually, an accurate inventory and report to the school board.Ensures all required reports and documents are filed and maintained for auditing purposes.Reviews, updates and approves all contractual agreements made with the food service department.Controls and maintains records of keys /key cards dispersed and retrieved from all food service employees.Submits and collects, “Statement Billings” to all outside sources that purchase food or services from the food service department.Updates the Food Service Policy Manual and HACCP Manual annually.**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSSee Attachment DWORKING CONDITIONSBetween 34% – 66% of the time will work in hot/humid environment above 80º (frequent).Up to 33% of the time will work in cool environment between 35º and 65º (occasional/essential to the job).Up to 33% of the time will work in environment below 35º (occasional).Up to 33% of the time will work on wet or slippery surfaces.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 230-day contract of 40 hours per week (flexible daily hours) .
