Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The Associate Director of the Office of Career & Professional Development counsels individual students and alumni to maximize employment prospects based on individual interests, abilities, and opportunities. The Associate Director will collaborate with law school faculty, staff, and alumni to plan and execute career and professional development programs, workshops, and networking events. The Associate Director will develop job search and professional development resources. The Associate Director will be involved in implementing the office’s employer relations strategy. The Associate Director will assist with data collection to ensure accurate reporting of employment statistics. The Associate Director will be proficient in software tools such as Symplicity, Excel, and will ensure proper data management and collection techniques. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Career & Professional Development.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 1 year related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
J.D. with at least two years practice experience in the public or private sector OR other degree with at least two years experience in law school career services or legal recruitment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Employee must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to work in a professional manner with students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff. Must have ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students. Must adapt to various personalities and needs. Must have or be willing to build relevant professional knowledge, including knowledge of traditional and nontraditional legal employment options. Must understand or be willing to learn about various employment settings and their hiring criteria and methods. Must be willing to build knowledge in a wide range of practice areas in order to assist students in their career planning. Must be able to develop strategies to meet employment goals in changing market and economic conditions. Must be willing to learn NALP principles and standards and ABA employment reporting protocols. Must have planning and organizational skills. Must be able to set priorities, maintain deadlines, and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must have problem-solving skills and ability to exercise good judgment. Must be able to weigh options. Prefer employee to be creative, innovative, and enthusiastic in exploring new ways to provide career development support to students and optimize law school’s employment outcomes. Must be proficient in data collection and analysis. Must be proficient or willing to quickly become proficient in software packages such as Symplicity, Excel, and others.
