||The Chief Operating Officer (CCO) in conjunction with the management team provides guidance, leadership and execution of internal and external strategic initiatives. This individual’s efforts will align with the strategic needs of the organization, and drive future growth through business development, support and marketing. This position identifies, analyzes, presents, and assesses business opportunities for the organization. This individual ensures the organization is well positioned in a rapidly evolving and competitive environment by being an agent for ongoing organizational development. This individual ensures that strategies are clearly understood by all stakeholders and that the organization achieves its strategic goals at the optimum pace. Also ensures highly productive relationships and partnerships for the benefit of the organization.
The COO is responsible for positive relationships and effective communications with executives, medical staff, employees, volunteers, community representatives and board members as appropriate. The COO develops plans to implement care and services based on community need and consistent with the strategic plan. S/he fulfills the leadership role in the CEO’s absence.
Ensure hospital compliance with federal, state and local government laws and regulations, accrediting agency standards and hospital policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
Support the growth of the organization through identification and development of new business opportunities to ensure organizational success. Develop business analyses related to potential markets to support business proposals.
Provide overall direction and leadership for assigned departments and for the professional development of assigned personnel. Responsible for the development and management of integrated, strategy aligned departmental work plans.
Has operational responsibilities such as, clinical engineering, maintenance/security, master facility planning/construction, service line implementation and supply chain management.
Demonstrate consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications and systems; recommends timelines and resources needed to achieve the program goals.
Work with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality project management. Provide leadership in development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff.
Participate in strategic planning sessions that include financial forecast/projections, business strategy, brand strategy, market assessment, business opportunities, and operational priorities.
Oversee the implementation of strategic goals and action plans, as assigned. Plans, designs, develops, and delivers programs and services that support the strategic initiatives of the organization. Act as a senior advisor to the management team on assigned projects; provides leadership to further the strategic agenda of the organization.
Represent the organization, as required, with designated business/community leaders, the general public, and/or the media to advance assigned projects, as directed. Systematically cultivates and maintains long-term, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and with selected organizations to achieve mutual goals.
Recommend, develop and implement policies, procedures and practices which foster and promote development throughout the organization; recommends organizational structures, personnel and resources to ensure program success. Recommend new or revised systems, methods, programs and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of organizational services.
Actively committed to quality of patient care, treatment, and services. Measures and reports quality results to hospital and corporate teams. Fosters continuous quality improvement. Participates in corporate-wide and hospital-based performance improvement activities.
Serves as the organizational leader in the absence of the CEO.
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressive career experience as a senior operating officer or similar position in an acute healthcare facility with broad-based experience required.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate interest and involvement in American College of Healthcare Executives as a member or a fellow.
