Job Description : | The Chesapeake Climate Action Network seeks an experienced digital communication professional to lead our social media movement for climate justice. Our Communications Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining CCAN digital campaigns and supporting our organizers’ actions across Maryland, DC, Virginia, and nationwide. This individual will produce excellent written and visual content and collaborate with the Communications Director and others to integrate messaging across channels – including social media, email, websites, and events – so we can maximize the impact of each campaign and mobilize our supporters. About Us The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is the only group in the Chesapeake region of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. dedicated exclusively to building a powerful grassroots movement to fight climate change. We envision an equitable energy future where fossil fuels are phased out and truly clean sources of power — efficiency, solar, and wind — sustain every aspect of our lives. We are committed to taking on big fights and pushing the envelope of what’s “politically possible,” using every tool inside and outside the box – from organizing and lobbying to the law and direct action. About the Position The Communications Manager will lead CCAN’s social media efforts, be a primary contributor to our email marketing campaigns, and create text or graphics for a variety of print materials and online notices – always spotlighting the key message points of each campaign. Equally important, the Communications Manager will also manage and organize CCAN’s supporter data. The ideal candidate for Communications Manager will bring relevant skills and knowledge and a heartfelt personal commitment to CCAN’s core mission: building a people’s movement to fight climate change in our region and beyond. Experience with non-profit organizations is a plus but not required. This position is full-time, salaried, and exempt from overtime. The Communications Manager reports to the Communications Director. What You Will Do The primary responsibilities of the position include: Support CCAN’s campaign goals through social media: Use best available data and analysis to grow CCAN’s presence on various online outlets and plan weekly content calendars to strategically highlight key areas of all campaigns. Email Set-up and Execution: Work with the Communications Director to prepare and disseminate broad-scale email communications to CCAN supporters. CRM Data Analysis: Hold bottom-line responsibility for analyzing and utilizing CCAN’s supporter data systems to further the organization’s goals. Campaign Material Visuals: Create appealing imagery that tells a story and helps build CCAN’s visual brand to advance our campaign goals. Website maintenance and upkeep: Help ensure that CCAN’s websites stay current while communicating CCAN’s work, tone, and goals. Qualifications Qualified candidates will display the following capabilities and qualities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Two to three years professional or volunteer communication experience. Proven ability to manage and grow social media impact across multiple platforms. Track record of planning and executing successful communications campaigns. Experience in CRM-based data management. CCAN uses Engaging Networks. Familiarity with digital organizing tools and platforms. CCAN uses CallHub and ActionKit. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Commitment to strengthening the movement for climate justice. The Details This position is based in Takoma Park, MD. Due to the pandemic, all CCAN staff are currently working from home. Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine is required for indoor events and activities, including access to CCAN offices. Salary is $52,000-$62,000 per year, commensurate with experience, and we will tailor the position to the level of experience of the successful candidate. We provide a generous benefits package, including health care, dental and vision coverage, and four weeks paid vacation.
