PURPOSE:
The Compensation Manager is responsible for managing all compensation-related matters to meet current and future business needs and ensure consistency with internal and the external market for the assigned business line. This role will assist in development and implementation of base pay and incentive programs to support UNFI’s strategic priorities and operational goals and ensure these programs are effective and aligned with the company’s overall compensation philosophy. Counsels’ management regarding the application of base compensation, principles and practices and understanding Total Compensation trends and ensuring best practice in the design and execution of all programs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage large-scale company-wide compensation initiatives, processes, and communications as required
Participate in the implementation, communication and ongoing management of the organization’s short-term incentives and other bonus programs
Contributes to the overall Human Resources strategy and objectives
Determine competitive wage rates and change as necessary based on compensation trends and best practices for to ensure market competitiveness and internal equity.
Provide recommendations/solutions to leadership on market for upcoming changes and trends
Act as primary resource in developing and administering salary programs for non-exempt and exempt positions to ensure internal and external equity
Ensure consistency in ongoing maintenance of the company job classification process & reporting
Partner with HR, including Talent Acquisition and Talent Management on organizational design, and administration of performance management programs and systems
Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to compensation providing recommendations to senior management
Create effective communications to educate HR and management on compensation philosophy and pay programs
Support the implementation of salary administration procedures, authorization and process and ensures effective administration of special compensation plans.
Oversee the annual salary survey participation strategy and process
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Finance, or related experience
CCP, CEBS, or PHR a plus
Experience:
5 – 7 years’ experience in the analysis, design, and/or administration of compensation programs
Experience in developing sales compensation plans and executive compensation.
Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of performance management systems
Experience in wholesale/distribution and consumer goods industries is a plus
Knowledge:
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Advanced Excel skills
Experience with HRIS systems; PeopleSoft a plus, SuccessFactors a plus
Skills/Abilities:
Able to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization including development and delivery of presentations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Creativity and critical thinking skills as demonstrated through the ability to draw conclusions, themes, and trends from data analysis
Requires demonstrated attention to detail, strong time management, customer service skills, and organization
Demonstrated leadership in planning, developing and implementing major compensation initiatives
Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and within a team environment to meet established deadlines
Must be able to work cross-functionally to implement administrative infrastructures and strategies
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:
Some travel may be required
Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday
Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
