Job Description : | Job Description: Development DirectorThe Monterey Jazz Festival is seeking a Development Director to lead the strategic direction of all development and fundraising activities for the 65-year-old legacy jazz organization. As part of the organization’s current strategic plan, development goals are focused on the following key initiatives:Continue to grow the operating reserve through a combination of budgeting, fundraising, and earned income campaigns.Demonstrate a flourishing culture of philanthropy throughout all levels of the organization.Create a systematic, sustainable, achievable fundraising plan with diversified income sources.Consider future opportunities such as a capital campaign, increased planned giving, or membership program.Expand awareness of the Festival to new donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and local community partners.Primary Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Development Director is responsible for cultivating and nurturing relationships within the philanthropic community and the festival audiences, creating and managing strategic partnerships, and developing short and long-term resources to ensure the sustainability and future growth of the Monterey Jazz Festival. The Development Director supervises fundraising staff, consultants, and volunteers.Responsible for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program that secures significant financial resources from individuals, foundations, corporations, and others.In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop and execute long-range development priorities, and goals.Formulate and execute an articulate and focused annual Development plan in alignment with long-term organizational goals.Focus on long-range strategic priorities, seeking to raise multi-year commitments when possible and communicate a broad vision to others.Manage all gift functions, which include principal gifts, planned giving, donor prospecting and research, and special one or multi-year fundraising campaigns.Motivate and coordinate the efforts of a multi-disciplinary staff team and volunteers, including the Board of Directors, in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.Recruit and supervise Development Coordinator, Grant Writers and Development volunteers.Manage Grantor Relationships – Oversee the development, writing and tracking of grant proposals, meet with grantors, and identify, cultivate, and close new grant support opportunities.Prepare, maintain, and reconcile department budget.Prepare monthly reports on status of fundraising efforts.Plan, execute and assess Monterey Jazz Festival fundraising efforts including: o Annual Appeals (Two) o Festival fundraising and donor cultivation opportunities o Donor relationships including oversight of donor management system and ensuring gifts are acknowledgment in an appropriate and timely manner o Manager grantor relationships – oversee development, tracking and reporting of grant proposals. Communicate with program officers regularly, identify and cultivate new grant support opportunities. o Fundraising Events – develop annual strategy for major fundraising events, oversee logistics, work with Board Development Committee to create guest lists, etc.Collaborate with marketing, ticketing and education on year-round fundraising and donor cultivation events.Identify, develop, and deliver new areas of contributed revenue support for the Monterey JazzFestival.Serve as community, national and international advocate, and spokesperson to build awareness and support for the Monterey Jazz Festival, its programs, and activities.Maintain active membership and participation in fundraising associations, attend meetings and conferences.Guide special projects as directed by the Executive Director.Requirements: Bachelor’s DegreeMinimum of 5 years development experience in nonprofit or arts organizationMinimum 2 years staff supervision and administrative management.Familiarity with foundation and philanthropic trendsKnowledge of donor management systems, knowledge of Bloomerang a plusExcellent relationship building skills with a successful track record of achievement in the solicitation and closing of major gifts.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe.
