Job Description : | The Director of Health Information Management Systems (HIMS) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and guidance to supervisors and staff and for promoting a culture of innovation and excellence in the provisions of services under his/her scope of responsibility. The HIMS Director plans, organizes, and directs the daily operations of the HIMS department. Responsible for the recommendation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures in HIM. Responsible for maintaining internal and external partnerships with agencies, patients, and representatives in ensuring timely and accurate patient information and regulatory protections with a high reliability of customer service. Maintains operational aspects of HIM department in collaboration with all other services areas, including Revenue Cycle operations, in accordance with regulatory and KPHC/SDHC requirements and KPHC strategic initiatives.Responsible for auditing health records and data for accuracy, compliance, and timeliness to ensure compliance with HIPAA/HITECH and other required laws and regulations. Reviews results with administration, medical, nursing, and clinical staff.Works collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff to improve the quality of documentation.Works with coding/billing staff to help ensure accurate coding/processing of claims for reimbursement and clinical care.Develops long- and short-term goals of the HIMS department.Hires, develops, assigns work to, and evaluates HIMS staff members.Ensures that medical, social, personal, and financial information relating to each patient is kept confidential and made available only to authorized personnel, including assuring compliance with HIPAA/HITECH regulations.Ensure that accurate, correct, and complete data and/or documents are scanned into appropriate patient records in their specified folders including, but not limited to, patient identification information, consent forms, historical data, mediations, diagnostic procedures/test reports, hospital discharge, and other medical records.Implement processes and systems to ensure security of health records and file system against unauthorized personnel including ensuring organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality authorization forms.Responsible for information governance to support accurate and facility-wide health data integrity, privacy, and security.Oversee and assist with data and health records collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, filing, and retention of medical records/data.Works cooperatively with other departments and other applicable organizational departments in overseeing patient rights to inspect, amend, and restrict access to protected health information (PHI) when appropriate.Timely develops guidance and assists in the identification, implementation, and maintenance of HIM policies and procedures in coordination with senior management and administration, HIPAA/HITECH regulations, and legal counsel, as required.Develops and maintains job descriptions and competencies for all HIMS staff.Provide updated HIPAA training information given by HR to new employees to ensure compliance with KPHC/SDHC policies and procedures and HIPAA/HITECH regulations.Ensure HIM Key Indicators are tracked and reported monthly to the quality and administration departments.Performs initial and periodic information privacy risk assessments and conduct related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with organizational, compliance, and operational assessment functions.Ensure state, tribal, and federal reporting is accurate, complete, and reported timely.Maintain department productivity, quality, and efficiency for all processes within the department.Ensure collaboration with all other services areas, including Revenue Cycle operations, and business associate agreements in accordance with regulatory and KPHC/SDHC requirements and KPHC strategic initiatives to protect health information within the purview of the organization.Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards and monitors advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.May serve as KPHC/SDHC Privacy Officer.Job Type: Full-timePay: From $76,266.00 per yearBenefits:401(k)401(k) matchingDental insuranceEmployee assistance programHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offTuition reimbursementVision insuranceSchedule:Monday to FridayExperience:Health Management Systems: 5 years (Preferred)Supervising: 3 years (Preferred)Work Location: One location |
