Position Summary
The Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for managing the communications and visibility for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and supporting game day operations. Westminster College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA II) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Westminster supports 15 competitive NCAA teams and some non-NCAA sport programs.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibility Media and Communications
Description
Manage publicity coverage for intercollegiate athletics in collaboration with Marketing & Communications; Identify and establish relationships with local & regional media outlets and provide them with regular and effective updates including game recaps, videos, photos, story ideas and feature stories to increase coverage and visibility.Write and distribute pre and post-game press releases, department announcements, social media posts, game results and statistics.Manage department website and social media pages, including content, layout, posts, and updates. (Sidearm Sports Website).Manage home event web stream broadcasts; including setup, takedown, operating and staffing.Design and complete game-day programs and other department graphic & print needs.Assist home event operations, including hiring, supervising and staffing for web-stream broadcasts, statistician, coordinate photography, and trouble-shooting.Manage team, action and other photograph’s for department to use on website, promotional purposes and future use. Manage online photo store and electronic photo database files.Build and manage a team of students, interns, and part-time staff to assist with daily work and game-day operations.
Responsibility Track and Report Information
Description
Manage all game statistics at home events, for away contests and cumulative stats. Manage required statistical and game reporting for the RMAC & NCAA. Manage team rosters and records for each sports program.Record and archive statistics, manage award nominations and recognitions, and game results; Manage student-athlete and coach interviews.Work collaboratively in the planning and preparation of the Athletics Hall of Fame selection process through data collection, management of nominee list and annual selection.

Additional Responsibilities
Additional Responsibilities Supervision of assigned staff and/or student positions as detailed in the Supervisor Handbook., May be designated as essential personnel in cases of campus closure or emergency., Other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements Periodic overnight travel may be required., Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required., Ability to respond on-call as assigned, including evenings and weekends is required., Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch required., Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds requried., Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Demonstrated successful experience in college athletics department or related experience.Proven leadership, public relations, and communication skills.Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to connect to a variety of constituencies in group presentation and one-on-one settings.Proficient with Microsoft Applications, InDesign, Photoshop and the ability to learn new software programs.Able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating high ethical standards.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and proven organizational skills.Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with various constituencies including students, faculty, administrators, and the general publicAbility to prioritize multiple tasks, proven organizational skills and problem solve.Demonstrated commitment to abide by all College, conference and NCAA policies and procedures.Able to adhere to and support the mission of the College, vision and values, which include diversity, equity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with communications, game-day operations, Sidearm Sports website, web stream production, NCAA Genius Sports & Stat Crew statistics programs, and live stats.Proficient with Microsoft Applications, InDesign, Photoshop, Social Media and the ability to learn new software programs.
