Job Description : | The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) is seeking a dynamic and experienced communications professional to serve as the Director of Communications. This position will also hold the role of Ombudsman for the agency to field and resolve requests from a variety of sources and act as the liaison between internal and external entities.This position is responsible for the continued development and implementation of the agency’s communication plan as well as a broad range of public relations activities. This position reports to the Commissioner and works with MCB leadership to coordinate and implement a statewide outreach plan to promote public awareness of the services that MCB provides.Our ideal candidate flourishes in a team-oriented environment. Visit the MCB website or MCB YouTube to access a vlog about agency services here.Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):Implement the strategy and execution of internal and external communications.Create and maintain multiple channels of content, including the agency’s website, intranet, newsletter(s), social media channels, and other forms of communication and collateral marketing materials.Serve as agency Ombudsman. Maintain current and accurate knowledge of all policies, programs, and services for MCB and their implications for consumers, stakeholders, and others who contact the agency.Support the planning and execution of MCB events across the state.Preferred Qualifications:State government experience a plus.Strong demonstrated knowledge and experience in media relations, external and internal communications, and social and online media.Demonstrated knowledge and experience with rehabilitation and human services.Competent in partnering with and influencing a wide range of constituents and senior leaders at all levels of the organization, and within the region’s communities, through relationship-building.Ability to respond to policy issues identified by the Commissioner and executive staff as well as high-level state officials, other interested parties and the general public.Skilled in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve objectives.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Constant Contact.Proficiency with content creation and management on social medial platforms, including Hootsuite, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.About the Commission for the Blind:The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) is the point of entry for vocational and social rehabilitation services for residents of the Commonwealth who are declared to be legally blind by an eye professional.
