We oversee the administration of the student conduct process. Position Summary The Director of Student Conduct reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor in Student Affairs and is a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT). The Director is charged with providing comprehensive leadership, management, and vision for campus disciplinary processes, including administration of the Code of Student Conduct and the Campus Alcohol Policy. The Director is responsible for oversight and advising of the undergraduate and graduate/professional Honor Systems and training of student, faculty, and staff participants. As provided in campus policies, the Director will also serve as a hearing or appellate officer for alleged conduct violations, including application of due process standards, review of evidence, selecting and implementing sanctions, reviewing and deciding appeals, and drafting decision letters. The Director plays an integral leadership role in developing and implementing educational and programming initiatives designed to meet the needs of the student body and the larger university community, particularly in the areas of citizenship and academic integrity. This position will continuously evaluate the effectiveness of campus disciplinary processes and, as needed, recommend updates to policy and practice to promote a safe campus community, foster individual student growth, and achieve the educational mission of the institution. This position requires the exercise of sound judgment and discretion; understanding and application of complex university policies; knowledge of and adherence to applicable statutory and regulatory mandates; and the collection and maintenance of protected student information used for university, state, and federal reporting purposes. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including diplomacy in communicating with diverse constituencies (students, parents, faculty, law enforcement, and attorneys) on confidential and sensitive matters. Strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to critically examine often conflicting sources of information. Strong leadership development skills, including the ability to research and identify complex issues and convey expertise to others in order to promote problem solving and design solutions. Ability to understand and apply data and assessment tools in strategic planning. Student-focused and a team player with a demonstrated record of influential strategic leadership. Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in student conduct or student affairs, or transferable experience from a related field. Experience with administrative disciplinary proceedings and/or investigations at a college or university is strongly preferred. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
