About the Opportunity The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for investigating and resolving employee performance issues and conflicts. Handles employee complaints, manages grievance procedures, and facilitates counseling in conjunction with other stakeholders. Investigates and resolves complex or critical employee relations issues in a timely and effective manner. Plans and participates in employee engagement activities including company-wide reward and recognition programs. Ensures compliance with HR policies and procedures through mentoring and education. Assists in the development and maintenance of employee relations policies and procedures. Responds to unemployment and worker’s compensation claims. This position reports to the Director of Employee Relations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Ensures that fair and equitable treatment of all employees is consistent with the company’s core values and objectives. Partners with both senior business stakeholders and HR team members to develop and implement Employee Relations best practices and programs. Handles employee complaints, complaint calls through the Ethics Hotline, manages grievance procedures, and facilitates counseling in conjunction with other stakeholders. Investigates and resolves complex or critical employee relations issues in a timely and effective manner. Aggregates and analyzes employee feedback across all levels on a regular basis and revises people engagement programs, policies, and procedures to generate positive outcomes. Participates in and/or leads projects focused on continuous improvement. Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding HR policies, procedures, employment issues, and other mitigating circumstances conducive to employee relations activities. Creates reports to provide both data and statistical information to leadership. Advises and trains management in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing problems and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed. Collaborates with the Legal Department and HR leadership in preparation for and participation in employee negotiations requiring such intervention, as needed. Represents the company in negotiations with employees regarding performance improvement plans and other performance resolution issues. Develops and administers all employee reward, recognition, and engagement programs across the company. Researches, writes, and develops employee relations best practices, policies, and procedures. Maintains HR manuals, handbooks, and their distribution when updated. Manages unemployment and worker’s compensation claims processes. Acts as a central point of contact for employee corrective actions and separations from the company. Manages and monitors the company’s Coronavirus program and reports on Covid cases, advises on exposure guidelines, and counsel on quarantine requirements. Administers training programs for all employees, including HR policies, procedures, and compliance modules. Performs other related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 3 – 5 years of professional human resource administration, including two years in employee relations or its equivalent through training, education, and other experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources or a related field required. Knowledge and understanding of employment law and labor relations. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. Extensive understanding of negotiation techniques, dispute resolution, and programs administration. Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills Deductive reasoning and analytical skills to evaluate problems to offer best solutions Be confident in decision-making Promote positive employee and customer outcomes Ability to work under pressure Conflict resolution with labor relations and alternate dispute resolution experience a plus. Data analysis a plus. Human Resources certifications (PHR, SHRM-CP, CPLP, etc.) preferred, but not required. Human Resources Generalist experience a plus.
