||Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. is a leading lumber & building materials distributor in the Midwest with 23 retail lumber and building material stores in Iowa, Illinois, Georgia & Wisconsin. We have an opening for the General Manager at our store in Dubuque, IA. As General Manager, you will set the tone and reinforce the company’s mission and vision from the top down. This position is accountable for the effective management and profitable operation of S&R Dubuque using process improvement techniques to continually drive sales, quality, delivery, cost and service.ResponsibilitiesThe General Manager will have general oversight of all divisions of the store including building materials, purchasing and hardware/paint. The position has a wide range of responsibilities including team and sales management with a focus on building strong customer relationships.Understands the needs of the customers and positions the company to profitably meet mutual needs of customer and company. Provides excellent customer service by addressing issues, questions or concerns in a timely manner. Builds long lasting relationships with customers.Partners with Regional Director on the development of overall objectives and long-range goals/strategies for the store. Translates objectives to measurable goals to all direct reports and monitors actions. This position is ultimately accountable for the successful execution of all approved strategies.Assesses market opportunities and assists in developing annual business plans in terms of volume and expense budgets. Responsible for establishing sales goals. Ensures the execution of sales strategies to develop new opportunities, increase market share and promote profitable sales growth.Communicates and promotes safety compliance in alignment with company standards. Leads by example in creating a culture of safety. Responsible for maintaining safe working environments and ensuring compliance with local, state and federal safety regulations.Responds to and maintains positive employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation and morale. Prevents and resolves problems involving individuals when they arise. Motivates coaches and mentors employees to build effective teams.Responsible for personnel management including recruitment, supervision, disciplinary actions, performance appraisals and terminations. Develops and trains staff to ensure high skill levels.Partners with Regional Director and Human Resources on employee development and succession planning initiatives, recruiting, discipline, etc.Ensures a culture built with honesty and integrity in compliance with the CORE values of the company.QualificationsA minimum of 5 years in a strategic operations or sales management role within the building materials or related industry.Possess solid business acumen and a deep understanding of the building materials market and industry trends, competition, and leading customer strategies.Previous experience in the oversight of a management team with the ability to set clear direction and hold them accountable for reaching performance goals.Strong understanding of financials and performance metrics.Excellent communication/leadership skills.Able to handle multiple responsibilities at one time and able to deal effectively with people using a facilitative approach.Demonstrated ability to delegate and obtain results through others.Ability to build effective relationships with direct reports, customers, suppliers and all business stakeholders.Ability to maintain composure and high level of professionalism in all circumstances, even when under pressure.We are looking for a leader with a proven track record of exceptional customer service, sales skills, team building and leadership abilities.
