Work Summary: Serve as the HR Director supporting units within the School of Medicine. This position will be responsible for all aspects of human resources, including, but not limited to, employee relations, compliance, training and development, policy interpretation, and consulting with leadership on the needs of the organization and its employees. This position will be responsible for supporting efforts to move the School of Medicine Moments to Movement diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan forward. This position will serve as an HR resource for the School of Medicine. This position will support the School of Medicine units, and will report through the School of Medicine HR Management Center reporting to the Associate Dean and CHRO with a dotted line reporting structure to the Assistant CHRO. Work Performed Provide guidance and assistance with all areas of employee relations including corrective action, reduction in force, and potential employee relations issues, serving as primary interface with School and University central offices. Facilitate the annual performance review process. Interpret HR policies; make recommendations and implement solutions. Prepare reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions; ensure maintenance of appropriate personnel records. Oversee compliance reporting and related employment actions include flu and COVID vaccination compliance. Serve as the primary interface with School and Duke central offices. Oversee compliance monitoring; report updates and trends; and provide noncompliance solution focused mitigation strategies. Provide support for implementing components of the School of Medicine Moments to Movement diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic plan. Liaison between the School of Medicine HR Management Center and the Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the School of Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Primary liaison between the department(s) and the School of Medicine Management Center, HR Service Center, Corporate HR, and other business partners. Demonstrate exceptional leadership and customer service skills. Drive continuous improvement and identify and implement system and process improvements. Provide subject matter expertise and coordinate HR activities including performance management processes and employee development deliverables including preparing and delivering tools and training to School HR leaders and managers. Provide interim departmental HR Director support as needed in the absence of departmental HR Director/Managers in the School Central HR area or other School of Medicine departments. Represent the School of Medicine Management Center in meetings. Minimum Qualifications Education: Work requires a general business or personnel background generally equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience: Work requires five years of business and/or administrative experience, with exposure to human resources activities, to acquire knowledge of human resources policies and procedures necessary to manage thepersonnel activities of a major department or division. Experience with employee relations is highly preferred. A PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification is preferred.
