Seeking a dynamic, organized, and self-motivated Laboratory Manager responsible for the daily management of lab operations for the Analytical Chemistry / Analytical Development teams. This position will work closely with analytical and developmental team members and other functional areas within the San Diego site to manage overhead functions and ensure alignment of processes and global company procedures. Responsibilities include purchase, qualification, and preventative maintenance of lab equipment, train new lab personnel on basic lab equipment and site-specific laboratory procedures, assist team members with SOP authoring and periodic review. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, knowledgeable of GMP laboratory procedures, safety regulations and end-to-end procurement processes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Manage the approval and purchase of new equipment for the AD/AC teams. Duties include generating quotes, coordinating with Facilities and Validation Departments, scheduling vendor installation and qualification, tracking and organizing service contracts, establishing equipment user SOPs. Manage the teams equipment inventory and operational status Preventative Maintenance of equipment. Track and organize service contracts for all laboratory equipment, schedule vendors, work with Validation and Quality Departments to release equipment for GMP use. Develop proficiency in basic laboratory equipment use in order to train new hires and users from other departments. Set up and manage the training program to ensure consistent use and documentation across all users. Serve as the laboratory Safety Representative to the site’s EH&S team. Manage chemical and reagent inventories, expiration dates, proper labelling, and waste disposal. Work with site Safety Manager and AD/AC team members to ensure a safe working environment. Ship samples to contract testing laboratories or research partners. DUTIES MAY INCLUDE: Based on previous experience and demonstrated proficiency, duties may include analytical testing to support ongoing development of vaccine candidates. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Analytical Chemistry or other Life Science with at least 3 to 5 years of experience working in a pharmaceutical / biopharmaceutical testing environment. Ability to follow SOPs and comply with cGMPs; generate SOPs Requires good technical writing skills and the ability to effectively communicate with manufacturing, materials management, and quality assurance staff Experience with analytical instrument software such as Empower, Softmax Pro, etc. a plus. Training in lab organization processes, a plus Successful applicants for this position must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment .
