We coordinate thousands of volunteers every year to support more than 100 LGBTQ-focused nonprofits, and we run a series of programs focused on building community engagement to support queer and trans causes.We are a young and fast-growing organization, running programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Diego County. We are seeking a Development Manager to lead the growth of several special initiatives to support LGBTQ+ nonprofits and promote community engagement in LGBTQ-communities.Working with the Executive Director, the Development Manager will focus on building and expanding TurnOut’s revenue-generating programs and donor engagement.REVENUE-GENERATING PROGRAMS: TurnOut offers four programs that generate revenue through corporate sponsorships and paid subscriptions: 1) TurnOut’s Queer Board Match, which connects prospective board members with LGBTQ-focused nonprofits looking to recruit new board members; 2) TurnOut’s Queer Board Accelerator, which offers a series of trainings for both prospective board members and currently-serving board members at LGBTQ+ nonprofits; 3) TurnOut’s Queer Nonprofit Legal Referral Panel, which connects LGBTQ+ nonprofits with attorneys for pro bono legal support; and 4) TurnOut’s work to support corporate LGBTQ+ employee resource groups (ERGs) with group volunteer experiences at LGBTQ+ nonprofits.The Development Manager will hold responsibility for all aspects of these programs, including development of marketing materials, recruitment of participants, implementation of programs, monitoring and evaluation of impact, and securing sponsorships to help fund the work.DONOR ENGAGEMENT: In addition to holding responsibility for TurnOut’s revenue-generating programs, the Development Manager will also help to build and expand TurnOut’s donor engagement. This includes leading our crowdfunding efforts for GiveOUTDay and #GivingTuesday, creating a monthly donor newsletter, and managing individual donor engagement through our Salesforce system.This position is a great fit for outgoing candidates who are highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about organizing within queer and trans communities and communities of color, with a focus on building leadership within queer and trans communities and communities of color. This position involves presenting to potential partners and securing sponsorships, and as such competitive candidates will possess strong speaking skills and be comfortable making pitches for funding.Ultimately, we are looking for candidates who want to join us in building community power to ensure that our LGBTQ+ nonprofit infrastructure has the support it needs to thrive.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepare marketing materials and execute marketing campaigns to promote revenue-generating programs among potential participants and partners.Successfully recruit individuals, nonprofits, and corporations to participate in each of these programs, hitting participation targets.Manage implementation of each program, including coordinating Queer Board Match events, coordinating Queer Board Accelerator trainings, connecting pro bono attorneys with nonprofits, and coordinating group volunteer activities for LGBTQ+ employee resource groups.Monitor and evaluate impact of each of these programs, including design and implementation of follow-up surveys and interviews.Identify and secure sponsors to help fund these programs, helping to secure funding to support their ongoing implementation.Create strategies and manage implementation of crowdfunding campaigns, includingGiveOUTDay and #GivingTuesday.Create strategies and manage implementation of donor engagement, including individual donor engagement through Salesforce, exploring monthly donor membership programs, and expanding existing fundraising events (e.g. house party fundraisers and a new annual fundraiser event).Other duties as assigned.QualificationsThe successful candidate will be a highly-motivated self-starter, with high attention to detail and creative ideas for expanding recruitment, bringing in new funding, and increasing the impact of TurnOut’s revenue-generating programs and donor engagement.Must possess strong interpersonal skills and public speaking ability, and must be culturally competent with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.Must possess a strong grasp of LGBTQ+ issues and QTBIPOC issues (Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, People of Color), including a fluency regarding the wide range of work done by queer and trans nonprofits, QTBIPOC nonprofits, as well as nonprofits focused on intersectional movements.Must possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing projects and priorities to completion successfully.Must possess strong writing skills and ability to create digital marketing assets.Must be a self-starter, disciplined with time, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.Experience with fundraising, sales and/or marketing is a plus.Experience with Salesforce, Canva, and Squarespace is a plus.Compensation: This position is full time at a $60,000 salary and includes paid time off and sick time, as well as medical insurance, dental insurance, and an employer match retirement plan.Location: We are seeking candidates located in one of TurnOut’s current target locations (the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California). TurnOut’s staff members work remotely, but staff are required to be on-site at events on occasion.Payment for Time Spent Interviewing: We believe in paid work, and all candidates who advance past the 15 minute screener phone interview will be paid for time spent in round 2 and round 3 interviews (which last between 30 minutes and an hour), as well as time spent on exercises requested as part of this application process.
