The Region Harvest Manager position reports directly to the Region Manager with responsibilities coordinated with the Western Timberlands Director of Harvesting and Transportation for harvesting activities. It is a full-time non-exempt role, and location is flexible within the region. This position is responsible for the development of the harvesting strategy and oversight/support for the execution across the four areas that make up approximately 625,000 acres in the Northern Washington region.
Key Functions
As NWA’s regional expert in harvesting, this role work with the Functional Harvesting Team to set WTL’s strategic harvesting direction. This role will then work with the region leadership to align the direction with financial, operations and marketing objectives for the region.
Strategic focus:
As a deep subject matter expert, be responsible for collaboratively establishing the region’s harvesting strategy, roadmap, OpX initiatives and budget.
Set priorities and establish best practices across the areas – lead the discussions, adoption, and gain support of best practices.
Communicate, build understanding and support, develop/execute implementation plans with operating areas to effectively execute the strategy.
Work with the Area Managers to update harvesting forecasts for financial reporting.
Work with Area Mangers to help with the development of harvest managers, transfer knowledge and provide performance feedback.
Champion innovation by addressing system challenges and identifying new technology and equipment configurations.
Execution focus:
Serves as a safety leader – positively impacting the safety culture and support, promote, and educate on tools and systems available.
Lead effort to identify and close gaps with our competition in the way we practice harvesting.
Support and engage execution with business partners (transportation, marketing, engineering, planning and silviculture).
Assist with contract administration and direct regional movement of contract work – capacity, pricing, acquiring, onboarding, compliance.
Maintain day rate cost model tools, pricing recommendations, and cash flow-based cost training.
Maintain harvesting key metrics (collect, monitor, summarize, communicate).
Work together with the Area Managers to set expectations for harvest managers, communicate issues and progress, assist with goal setting and people management and development.
Mentor staff, participate in new employee onboarding, work with the teams to flow staff and resources across area boundaries and participate in performance reviews.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience.
Preferred: Degree with 8+ years of experience
Ability to manage large projects and initiatives and inspire commitment to harvesting direction, practices and change.
Ability to problem solve and build relationships and support in addressing common goals.
Demonstrated track record of accomplishments driving financial performance improvement and maximizing returns.
Defined experience and understanding of operations, value optimization, transportation, marketing functions, and state regulatory requirements.
Pacific Northwest harvesting knowledge and credibility, with proven strategic thinking and analysis skills.
Exhibited examples of displaying Weyerhaeuser’s leadership expectations and competencies.
