Job Description : JOB SUMMARY: Performs employee relations duties with focus on positive employment relationship. Advises supervisors and employees regarding the disciplinary process and the management of performance problems or deficits. Conducts internal reviews and assists with HR investigations. Coordinates compliance related tasks such as controlled substance testing and unemployment claims management. JOB DUTIES: 40% – Essential – Staff Relations and Investigations: Conducts intake for complaints from employees, supervisors, or other parties. Interviews parties involved and makes recommendations regarding resolution. Facilitates mediation and resolution between parties. Conducts internal reviews and assessments and outlines findings. Reviews disciplinary actions to ensure compliance with policy and procedure. Educates departments on the discipline policy and other applicable University policies. Assists with workplace investigations (Title VII). 30% – Essential – Staff Relations Programs: Coordinates the controlled substance testing process, including quarterly, preemployment, and follow-up testing. Assists with training regarding controlled substances and educates departments on drug and alcohol policies. Assists with employee relations and compliance matters such as managing student loan defaults and associated communications. Monitors and responds to unemployment claims. Participates in unemployment audits and hearings as necessary. Coordinates annual employment law poster distribution. 15% – Essential – Performance Concerns Management: Provides guidance and training to employees and supervisors, including consulting on performance related concerns including substandard performance issues. Facilitates the Warning Notice of Substandard Performance process and PIP processes as appropriate. Develops innovative solutions to address performance concerns. Suggests edits to internal processes for managing poor performance. 15% – Essential – HR Initiatives, Compliance and Special Projects: Collaborates with other OHR units to assist with employee relations and compliance matters including Human Resources Information System upgrades and other software or program changes driving increased efficiency or process improvements. Revises, drafts and provides training on HR policies and procedures. Participates in special projects at a unit and/or department level. A bachelor’s degree and experience in human resources management programs.
