Job Description : Position Summary: Oversees the day to day operations of an assigned shift within a residential program cottage, and ensures that the Childhelp Model is implemented with fidelity. Oversees, develops and supports direct reports. Ensures service delivery meets quality standards of the Childhelp Model and that effective and safe treatment is provided to residents. Responsible for supervising the milieu and working within regulatory and accreditation guidelines. Supports leisure, recreational, and family engagement activities. Monitors and oversees the cottage staff’s adherence to administrative and programmatic policies and procedures. Assists in the coordination between the milieu and other disciplines.This position has 2 to 8 direct reports.Essential Functions: Essential/ Non-essentialOversees the supervision, protection and care of children by staff providing direct care within the regulations of Title 22 by carrying out the following:SupervisionCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Childhelp’s cultural values and performance principles, company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:Actively participating in the interviewing and hiring processes and ensuring successful functional onboarding of new employeesPlanning, assigning and directing work for direct reports to include ensuring maintenance and adherence to standard workProviding consistent consultation (including coaching and feedback), and learning opportunities to direct reportsProviding on the spot coaching to enhance direct reports’ application of therapeutic interventions, relationship building, and empowerment of childrenSetting reasonable stretch performance goals, providing constructive, balanced, regular performance feedback, and conducting annual performance appraisalsRecognizing and rewarding efforts, improvement, and performance excellenceCommunicating and enforcing company policies, proceduresDriving schedule adherence in compliance with contractually required staff-to-child ratios; and coordinating time off requests to ensure adequate childcare coverage to support a safe and secure therapeutic environmentApproving timesheets for payrollApplying corrective action, addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely fashion, involving and collaborating with leadership and Human Resources as appropriateFunctional/OperationalPersonally and through subordinate staff, performs the following: Care DeliveryConsistently demonstrates Childhelp Model competencies and serves as a role model for staffOversees and directly delivers services to residents during cottage activities on and off of the Childhelp grounds in order to model and assist with teaching interactions and real time opportunities to teachMaintains a program focus on teaching appropriate life and social skills to children in a way the prepares them for a successful discharge to a lower level of care and permanencyMonitors the consistent implementation of the motivation system and other client information related to the Childhelp ModelContinuous Improvement & QualityEnsures compliance with all policies, procedures, protocols, and practices surrounding physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, child abuse, neglect, and STRTP and other contract and licensure requirements; and applies knowledge to the work in accordance with quality standardsProvides leadership and positive role modeling for all staff by attending, actively participating in and ensures the same for staff of all trainings and development programs and opportunities, weekly unit meetings and supervisory sessions, and demonstrates learned concepts on the jobTrains direct reports and others as needed during pre-service/in-service trainingCompletes required documentation including, but not limited to standard work documentationParticipates in assigned work teams, as requested and appropriateEngages in continuous improvement efforts, as assigned, and strives to continuously improve the quality of care and selfCommunicates daily and as necessary with colleagues, teachers, therapists, supervisor, and leadershipHealth, Safety & SecurityEnsures a safe, positive living environment for children in accordance with policies and proceduresEnsures children’s basic health needs are metEnsures crisis intervention using primary preventative measures is applied with children and supports efforts as issues arise include phone consultation and in-person crisis support intervention during assigned shiftsDrivingDrives agency vehicles for the purpose of transporting youth and operating all facets of the treatment programTransports residents for routine community activities, court appointments, medical appointments, family visits, other required appointments, and emergency situationsObeys all traffic lawsServes as Facility Manager in the absence of managerCovers shifts of direct reports to ensure proper coverage as neededOther duties as assignedRequirementsEducation/Experience/Knowledge/UnderstandingBachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience as follows:High school Diploma/GED AND one of the following:Valid Child Development Teaching PermitCompleted 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and: have a minimum of 100 hours of experience working with youthValid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youthValid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journey-person who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.Minimum of one year of previous experience a full-time direct care staff role, or as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment programRelevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or other relevant experience as determined by the department.Certification in the Childhelp Model within 12 months of hire, and successful completion of annual evaluation for recertificationMinimum of two years in a direct care staff role working with childrenKnowledge and understanding of the needs of children served in a children’s residential settingPossess a valid unrestricted driver licenseMust be at least 21 years of ageClear fingerprint background screening through the Department of Justice, FBI and Child Abuse IndexSkillsStrong verbal, written, and listening communication skills to include communicating clearly, effectively, tactfully, and patiently to a diverse populationStrong interpersonal skills and demeanor with the ability to build rapport and garner trust with othersEffective organization and time management skillsProficient coaching skills to include individualized communication, interaction, and feedbackProficient in the use of a PC;
