Under the leadership of the Assistant Director for Patient Flow, the Unit Director, Central Patient Placement, Transfer Center and House Supervisors is directly responsible for the fiscal and personnel management in the following areas:
House Supervision (Adult – Inpatient) all sites:
The Unit Director will be responsible for the hiring of staff. The UD will develop and evaluate competency of staff. They’ll provide administrative guidance and act as a resource for all Adult House Supervisors. This is a 24/7, multi-site responsibility that provides administrative and operational direction for the House Supervisors.
Transfer Center and Central Patient Placement (CPP) Nurses:
The Unit Director is responsible for the oversight of all activities of the Transfer Center and CPP nurses. The UD maintains in-depth knowledge of applicable EMTALA laws and UCSF transfer policy, and acts as a liaison for the Department of Nursing for other departments including Human Resources, Payroll, Admitting and Finance. The UD collaborates closely with the management team to cross cover all functions and responsibilities of the work unit. They’re responsible for oversight of all patient flow related processes, implementation of organizational goals and day to day management of capacity within multiple locations (Mount Zion, Mission Bay Adult areas and Parnassus Inpatient areas).
Department Description
Central Operations and Patient Placement is open 24-hours daily to coordinate the transfer of patients to UCSF Medical Center and to manage staffing, patient placement and flow to all inpatient units. The position requires an interface with physicians, nurses and all ancillary services in managing the admissions, transfers and discharges. This is a busy department, one that requires flexibility, a calm demeanor and excellent communication skills.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of five (5) years of recent full-time acute care, critical care or emergency clinical RN work experience
A minimum of three (3) years of recent progressive managerial experience
Bachelor or Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing
Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services; knowledge to manage disaster incidents, critical events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills
Possesses strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
Strong leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines; able to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and collaboration
Knowledgeable of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
Experience with Epic/Apex
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Nursing or relevant area
Specialty Certification (CENP or NE BC)
License/Certification
Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
Active American Heart Association ACLS Certification
