This recruitment will be used to establish an on-call list for occasional weekend work. Workers may be scheduled to work 7.5 hours per day on a Saturday, Sunday or both days, depending on the worker’s availability. This list may be used to staff other shifts throughout the year. This is an extra-help, non-benefited position.ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Work Crew Supervisor provides field supervision and direction for adult probationers. There is currently one position available in the Probation Department. This position receives direction from the Chief Probation Officer and will be scheduled to work 7.5 hours per day on both Saturday and Sunday. A list may be established to utilize for staffing shortages in other shifts throughout the year.DEFINITIONTo provide supervision and direction to adult probationers enrolled in the Adult Work Program.SUPERVISION & EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Chief Probation Officer.EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES – Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Responsible for meeting crew participants at designated times, checking and loading tools, equipment, and supplies for the day’s work, driving the van to transport the work crew to and from work sites.Assigns specific tasks to each participant, provides instruction and direction on job and safety procedures.Responsible for rating each participant on daily activities.Issues and accounts for tools, equipment, and safety gear.Submits reports as required.Supervises the return of the Crew, the unloading of the van, cleaning of the equipment, and preparing the van for the next day.Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.QUALIFICATIONS:QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of:Basic principles and procedures of adult probation.Basic legal terminology and procedures.Principles and procedures of record keeping.Basic arithmetic.Ability to:Learn the organization, policies and operating procedures of the department.Learn and apply pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.Understand and deal effectively with probationers in the work program.Prepare and maintain accurate reports, records and logs.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Experience and Training Guidelines:Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.Experience:One year paid or unpaid work experience coordinating/overseeing the work of others or a project.Training:High school diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional specialized training or coursework in law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field is highly desirable.License or CertificatePossession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters in performing the essential functions of this job.Work is performed in both an office and outside environments, which includes exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, controlled and hazardous substances, pesticides, herbicides, gases and chemicals; and moving machinery parts.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
