Explaining that the actors are actually eating during the Thanksgiving scenes, Zeile said they all know it’s safest to eat foods like potatoes or stuffing because “even if those things are cold, they’ll still be good.” flavors” as you continue to film after shooting a scene, sometimes over the course of many hours.
But Zeile recalled a time when her co-star, Niles Fitch, who played Kate’s brother Randall as a teenager and young adult, defied that logic and regretted it.
“I don’t know why Niles spent a year deciding that he was going to pick up an entire turkey leg and take a huge bite into a turkey leg,” she said. “It was all cold, and then it was almost raw inside.”
But actors need to think about continuity, and Zeile explained that Fitch “didn’t want to ruin the harvest,” so he had to keep eating the cold, almost raw meat.
“He tried so hard to keep his face straight, but his face was like – he just looked sick. When they finally cut, we were all laughing to death,” Zeile recalls.
It was an unfortunate acting choice, but Fitch learned his lesson. Zeile assured Insider that in the years that followed, her costar “would cut it open before even daring to bite the flesh”.
Fitch’s temporary discomfort has made a lasting memory of the “This Is Us” cast. Every subsequent Thanksgiving episode since that one (Zeile couldn’t remember which episode it was, but we suspect it’s an unaired moment from the “Six Thanksgivings” of 2018″) Zeile said, “We all reminisce about the time when he got a full bite of a raw turkey leg.”
Zeile had to stay mum about the impending end of NBC’s beloved family drama, but echoed her on-screen father Milo Ventimiglia’s recent sentiment to Us Weekly that the series’ ending will contain “a little bit of magic.”
“I know how frustrating it can be to watch a show for six years and be so invested and then be so unfulfilled and disappointed,” Zeile told Insider, adding that she thinks the fans of “This Is Us” will be “fulfilled” at the end. †
She said she’s excited to close the show “on a high note.” And when people think back to the show and the series finale in the future, she hopes they have “a warm, happy feeling” instead of a dissatisfied feeling.
The final season of “This Is Us” airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
